Green Logistics for your warehouse

Green warehouse management makes your logistics sustainable, for example through route optimisation, and can also reduce operating costs.
Green warehouse management makes your logistics sustainable, for example through route optimisation, and can also reduce operating costs.
Sustainability and green process optimisation are on the rise everywhere, in the intralogistics industry too. The good news is that warehouses using the PROLAG®World software are both more sustainable and more cost-effective: The warehouse management system designed by CIM GmbH cuts energy requirements so that CO2 emissions are reduced, manages resources effectively, and uses optimised materials management to scale down waste levels.

Choosing PROLAG®World means switching from paper-based to digital process guidance and this simple step brings a huge reduction in materials usage. The energy required to run your warehouse is reduced even further by processes such as route optimisation and two-step picking. In combination, these functions ensure that forklifts are guided on the shortest path through the warehouse, using as little energy as possible. What’s more, PROLAG®World offers users many additional features for enhancing the sustainability of their logistics processes.

Energy requirements halved

At the automated warehouse of a major Austrian textile manufacturer, PROLAG®World was introduced and resulted in a 50 % drop in energy consumption. There, stacker cranes are guided through the warehouse at varying speeds according to workloads and route lengths. Any resources that are not required are automatically switched off in order to systematically reduce carbon emissions. And as an added bonus, optimised crane activity protects material, reduces wear and enhances component service lives.

Less waste for warehouses and customers

A drinks manufacturer in southern Germany uses PROLAG®World’s shipment generation feature to save packing material and shorten transport routes. Delivery orders are bundled so that, wherever possible, they can be delivered to customers together on a single transport vehicle. And a manufacturer of bedding products uses functionalities for managing packing units to enhance sustainability. This feature saves time and costs during the packing process. As soon as purchase orders arrive at the packing area, the correct packing unit is displayed so that no packaging material is wasted and costs are ultimately saved.

Recycling of returns and remainders

The PROLAG®World dekitting and remainders management functions are used by CIM customers in their production processes to manage sustainable materials usage and to reduce waste. With the dekitting function, the software guides users simply and easily though disassembly of finished parts or returns. Individual components that are faulty can be replaced without having to dispose of entire finished parts. The remainders management module is used to optimise materials usage and costs: remainders are returned to the warehouse to be available for new production orders. The process is highly optimised and there are almost no remainders for disposal.

“The features mentioned above are just a few examples of green functionality in PROLAG®World”, says Daniel Wöhr from CIM’s press and marketing department. Sustainability is a key element of the company philosophy and CIM’s innovation department is always providing new solutions for customers. The advantage? Functions for sustainable logistics also save costs, and so they are even more interesting for companies.
